AdministrationThe Society is administered by a "Council" which meets up to four times a year, consisting of the President, Secretary, Treasurer, and six other officers with special responsibilities. These are the:
Job descriptions for all Council officers are given in the NZSS Administration section. Of the nine council members, there must be at least two from each island. The addresses of current NZSS Officers are printed from time to time in the NZS Bulletin and in Tomo Times. The Council has the power to appoint persons from the Society's membership to serve as Society officers outside of Council. The officers appointed usually include the maps officer, trading officer, Tomo Times editor, Bulletin editor, bibliographer, and librarian. Council members may hold these positions. Any member of the Society may attend any Council meeting, and shall have speaking rights but not voting rights. Annual General MeetingThe Society's Annual General Meeting is usually held during Labour Weekend in October and is normally followed by the photographic competition and a semi-formal dinner. The AGM is hosted by a different club each year, usually in a location suitable for caving. A full weekend's programme of varied activities, usually including some caving trips, is organised by the host club. Election of NZSS officersNominations are called for prior to the AGM, and if more than one nomination is received for President, the constitution requires a postal vote by which the President is elected following scrutineering at the Annual General Meeting. Any member may nominate any other member for President. Each nomination must be seconded and consented to by the candidate, and be received by the Secretary six weeks before the Annual General Meeting. Full details of voting procedures, etc, are given in the constitution. Affiliated ClubsClubs affiliated to the NZSS at the time of writing are described below. Where a private address is given, this is for the current secretary of the club, and is liable to change. Current addresses are available from the NZSS Secretary. |
