Affiliated Caving Groups

The Caving Groups affiliated to the NZSS are described below welcome membership enquiries and visitors to their meetings.

Where a private address is given, this is for the current secretary of the group, and is liable to change. Check their websites, or alternatively current addresses are available from the NZSS Secretary.

Auckland Speleo Group

Auckland Speleo Group

This caving group comprises about 70 members, with meetings held each month (see the ASG website for details). The group owns a hut at Waitomo. Main caving areas are Waipu, Waitomo, and Matawhero.

Hamilton Tomo Group logo

HTG is a long-established caving group with a membership of about 50. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month. HTG has a large hut at Waitomo, and most activity is based there.

Manawatu Speleological Group logo

Manawatu Speleological Group

This group has about 25 members spread through the northern Wairarapa and Manawatu area. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at a private residence. Main caving areas are Wairarapa, Whakapunake, Mahoenui, and Waitomo.

Wellington Caving Group

WCG has a current membership of about 30. The group visits caving areas throughout the southern North Island as well as Makuri, Waitomo, Piopio, and Mahoenui, and also has trips to Nelson caving areas.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm, from February to November, at Mitsubishi Motors, Ground floor, North facing entrance (revolving door), Te Wananga o Aotearoa building, Todd Park, Porirua. The meeting room is signposted from front entrance door. There is ample free parking available in front of building.

Nelson Speleological Group

Nelson Speleological Group has a membership of 40 active cavers, with prime caving areas close at hand.

Meetings are on the third Thursday of the month at a member's house. The club has a caving base on Takaka Hill.

Canterbury Caving Group logo

Canterbury Caving Group

Formed in 1968, Canterbury Caving Group has around 40 members, whose activities are focused on the Punakaiki-Charleston area of the West Coast, as well as the marble areas of Nelson. For further information regarding CCG, including contact details and meetings, please visit the CCG website.
